Shannon currently works at UPMC Enterprises as a Senior Designer. She is part of the "Hospitals of the Future" team, which conducts human-centered design and user research to support the design of three new "high tech" hospital facilities to be built over the next several years. She is particularly interested in using a multi-disciplinary approach to design, creating interactions that span the physical and digital worlds, and improving the patient experience through design and empathy.

Shannon received her Master's degree in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University, and both a BS in Bioengineering and a BA in Studio Arts from the University of Pittsburgh. For her Master's thesis, she focused on exploring ways to use interaction design to improve quality of life for patients on life-sustaining medical devices. She has previously worked at 4moms as a User Experience Designer, where she worked on designing interactive experiences for robotic baby gear and a Bluetooth connected app. She also previously worked as a Biomedical Engineer, doing research, design, and development for medical devices.
